The Audi TT is a front- or all-wheel drive compact premium sports car, available in two body styles: a two-door coupe and a convertible with a soft top ... This car, combining stylish design, innovative technical "stuffing" and a sporty character, is addressed to, first of all, active and wealthy people who want to stand out from the rest and show their advantage ...

The next, third in a row, generation of Audi TT with in-plant marking "8S" in the coupe body made its debut in March 2014 at the stands of the International Geneva Motor Show, while its open modification called the Roadster was presented in October of the same year on the motor show in Paris.

At the same time, the conceptual forerunner of a sports model called the Allroad Shooting Brake celebrated its premiere in January 2014 on the stage of the North American automobile show.

In a narrow sense, the revolution did not happen compared to its predecessor, but the two-door evolved in all directions without exception: it was transformed inside and out, moved to a new modular "cart", adopted new power units and received a wide range of progressive equipment.

In mid-July 2018, during an online presentation, the restyled Audi TT was presented to the general public, but its full-scale debut took place only in October at the International Paris Auto Show.

As a result of the modernization, the sports car “refreshed” a little outwardly, acquired light edits to the interior, replenished its functionality with new options and changed the 6-band “robot” S tronic to a 7-speed one, but at the same time lost two engines at once (turbodiesel and 180-horsepower gasoline Quartet TFSI).

From the outside, the third-generation Audi TT looks attractive, balanced and really bold, and there are no contradictory decisions in its appearance. The front view of the car exudes aggression, flaunting the evil squint of LED headlights, a faceted "shield" of the radiator grille with a honeycomb pattern and a raised bumper with wide air intakes placed in the corners, and from the rear it can boast, albeit calmer, but solid and massive outlines with angular lamps. an elegant spoiler and two large bore exhaust pipes.

Regardless of the bodywork, the profile of the two-door is characterized by dynamic, squat and graceful proportions with a sloping bonnet, clearly traced wheel arches and embossed plastic sidewalls ... however, the coupe has a sloping roof with a characteristic "hump" turning into a short "branch" of the trunk while a convertible has a more pronounced "sirloin" part.

The length of the third generation Audi TT is 4191 mm, the width does not exceed 1832 mm, and the height reaches 1376 mm (the roadster is 1355 mm). The center distance of the sports car is 2505 mm, and its ground clearance is 130 mm.

In "combat" form, the weight of the two-door varies from 1250 to 1465 kg, depending on the modification.

Inside, the “third” Audi TT “flaunts” a laconic, thoughtful and sophisticated, but “thoroughbred” and expensive design - a multi-steering wheel with a raised three-spoke rim “cropped” at the bottom, a virtual instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch screen displaying the entire array of information , a minimalist center console with three turbine air ducts, combined with single-zone "climate" control buttons, and several buttons for secondary functions. In addition to this, the interior of the sports car is distinguished by impeccable ergonomics, first-class finishing materials and high build quality.

According to the passport, the third-generation Audi TT coupe has a four-seater cabin layout, but in fact, only children can somehow sit on the second row, and even then - on short trips, while a roadster has only two seats. By default, the front section is equipped with ergonomically profiled seats with well-defined lateral support, moderately rigid padding and sufficient adjustment ranges, which can optionally be replaced with sports seats with more developed relief and integrated head restraints.

The premium coupe has at its disposal a very comfortable trunk with a volume of 305 liters in normal condition, while the roadster has a slightly more modest figure - 280 liters. At the same time, in the closed modification, the back of the second row folds in two equal sections, doubling the initial indicators - up to 712 liters. In the underground niche there are cells for small things, a bottle of sealant and a compressor.

The restyled Audi TT of the third generation is offered in two petrol versions to choose from:

  • The base 40 TFSI is powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-liter TFSI in-line unit, a turbocharger, combined fuel injection, a water-circuit exhaust manifold, phase shifters on the inlet and outlet and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt that generates 197 horsepower at 4,400 - 6000 rpm and 320 Nm of torque at 1500-4200 rpm.
  • Under the hood of the more efficient 45 TFSI, the same engine is hidden, but boosted to 245 hp. at 5000-6700 rpm and 370 Nm of torque at 1600-4300 rpm.

The "junior" engine is combined exclusively with the 7-band "robot" S tronic and front-wheel drive transmission, while the "senior" by default relies on a 6-speed "mechanics", and as an option - all the same robotic gearbox and a system of full drive with an electro-hydraulic Haldex clutch that transfers torque to the rear wheels (it almost always works with a slight preload, transferring back up to 15% of thrust).

From 0 to 100 km / h, a closed two-door accelerates after 5.2-6.6 seconds, while an open model spends 5.5-6.9 seconds on this exercise. The maximum speed of the car "rests" at 250 km / h, regardless of the modification. And its fuel consumption varies from 6.1 to 7.3 liters.

It is worth noting that before the restyling, the sports car was also equipped with a 1.8 TFSI gasoline engine producing 180 hp. and 250 Nm of torque, and a 2.0 TDI turbo diesel generating 184 hp. and 380 Nm.

The third generation Audi TT is based on the modular MQB platform with front-wheel drive and transverse powertrain. The body of the car is 69% aluminum, with some of the components made of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel grades.

In the "base" on both axles of the sports car, independent suspensions with passive shock absorbers and anti-roll bars are used: in the front - classic MacPherson struts, in the back - a four-link design. For a surcharge, the two-door relies on an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled Magnetic Ride shock absorbers.

This sports car boasts rack and pinion steering with variable transmission active electric power steering. All wheels of the car are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle), complemented by a bunch of modern electronic "gadgets".

The third generation Audi TT left the Russian market at the end of April 2019, never reaching our country in an updated form. In Germany, the coupe is offered at a price of 36,500 euros (~ 2.65 million rubles), and the roadster will have to pay from 38,900 euros (~ 2.83 million rubles).

The standard two-door includes: four airbags, air conditioning, ABS, ESP, heated front seats, power windows, virtual instrument cluster, all-LED optics, 17-inch alloy wheels, light and rain sensors, premium audio system and much more.
