On the stage of the Frankfurt Motor Show, which opened its doors to visitors in October 2015, the DS brand - an independent premium division of Citroen - put on public display the five-door DS 4 model, which finally got rid of the "double chevron" on the nose. Compared to its predecessor, the hatchback has noticeably changed in appearance, received a more refined interior and expanded the list of equipment with new items, becoming even more premium. The car reached the countries of the Old World in November 2015, but in Russia it will appear in June 2016.

Outwardly, DS 4 is beautiful and graceful, and in the stream of cars it instantly attracts the eye. The front of the hatchback is overflowing with aggression, and the main role is assigned to the honeycomb "hex" of the radiator grille, framed by a thick chrome frame and frowning LED headlights.

And in profile, the car does not miss: it has a steep and muscular silhouette with a spectacularly sloping roof and hidden rear door handles. The lean rear of the five-door flaunts sleek LED lights and a swollen bumper with coolly styled exhaust pipes.

The external dimensions of DS 4 correspond to the European C-class: 4275 mm long, 1526 mm high and 1810 mm wide. Between the front and rear axles, a 2612 mm gap fits, and under the "belly" you can see a ground clearance of 172 mm.

The decoration of the "fourth de-esa" is worked out conscientiously both in terms of design and from the standpoint of ergonomics, and is woven from natural leather and soft grades of plastic, diluted with aluminum inserts. First of all, inside the car, attention is drawn to the extravagant, but uninformative instrument cluster, and the weighty multifunctional steering wheel, slightly truncated at the bottom. The beautiful and exemplary center console houses a 7-inch monitor of the multimedia center and convenient controls for "music" and "climate".

DS 4 front seats with a pronounced side profile look cool and have a lot of adjustment possibilities. Rear passengers can only complain about the small width of the doorway and tightly glued glass, devoid of a lifting mechanism, but they get a good supply of space in front of the knees and above their heads.

In the luggage compartment of the hatchback there is room for 359 liters of luggage, while the "hold" itself demonstrates the correct proportions with smooth walls. The backrests of the rear seats are transformed by a pair of unequal parts and increase the cargo capacity to 1021 liters, but when folded they form a noticeable step.

Specifications. The power range of DS 4 consists of three petrol and three diesel engines, which, regardless of modification, direct the entire amount of power to the drive wheels of the front end.

  • The basic petrol versions of the five-door are equipped with a 1.2-liter in-line three-cylinder PureTech unit with a turbocharging and direct fuel injection, the output of which is 130 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm.
  • Under the hood of more powerful cars is a 1.6-liter "four" THP with a turbocharger, throttle-free mixture formation system and direct power supply, available in several boost levels:
    • The "youngest" version generates 165 "mares" at 6000 rpm and 240 Nm of ultimate thrust at 1400 rpm,
    • and the "elder" - 210 "heads" at 6000 rpm and 285 Nm at 1750 rpm.

Each of the gasoline engines mates with 6-speed gearboxes, but if the 165-horsepower is equipped with an “automatic”, then the remaining two are with “mechanics”. Depending on the modification with a spurt up to the first "hundred" DS 4 copes in 7.8-9.9 seconds, gains 198-235 km / h and "eats" no more than 4.9-5.9 liters per 100 km in the "city / highway" cycle.

The diesel "team" on the car is represented by in-line four-cylinder BlueHDi units with a direct fuel supply system, 16-valve timing and turbocharging.

  • The initial variant is a 1.6-liter engine producing 120 horsepower at 3500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm and working in tandem with 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions.
  • Behind it in the hierarchy is an engine with a working volume of 2.0 liters, for which two degrees of "pumping" are prepared: 150 "mares" at 4000 rpm and 370 Nm of available thrust at 2000 rpm or 181 forces at 3750 rpm and 4000 Nm of capacity at 2000 rpm.

In the first case, the direction of power to the drive wheels is carried out by the manual gearbox, and in the second - by the automatic gearbox (both there and there for six gears).

In asphalt exercises, diesel modifications of "de-esa" show themselves on the good side: they spend 8.6-11.4 seconds to gain 100 km / h from a standstill and accelerate to 189-207 km / h. The declared fuel consumption is from 3.9 to 4.3 liters in the combined cycle per “hundred” of the way.

The DS 4 is based on the "PSA PF2" front-wheel drive architecture, on which the power unit is perched transversely. The front axle on the car is equipped with an independent suspension with classic McPherson struts and a transverse stabilizer, and in its rear part a semi-independent structure with a torsion beam and an anti-roll bar is used. The steering on the premium hatchback is expressed by a rack and pinion system with an electrohydraulic booster and a variable gear ratio depending on driving conditions. "Frenchman" is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels (with the most powerful motor - ventilated "in a circle"), which are assisted by 8th generation ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and other electronic gadgets.

Options and prices. In the Russian market, DS 4 will go on sale in June 2016, however, prices and configurations have not yet been announced.
For buyers from the European Union, the hatchback is offered in Chic, Business, Be Chic, So Chic, Executive and Sport Chic trims at a price of 23,700 euros (this is the minimum asking for it in France). In the basic solution, the car is capable of boasting six airbags, air conditioning, ABS, EBD, BA, ESP, front power windows, standard "music" with six speakers, 16-inch light-alloy "rollers", assistance system when starting to move up, "cruise" and other modern functionality.
For the most "stuffed" version you will have to pay from 32,000 euros. The five-door "flaunts" (in addition to the aforementioned equipment) fully LED optics, dual-zone "climate", front seats with heating, ventilation and electric settings, a multimedia center, a rearview camera, front and rear parking sensors, leather interior, monitoring system "dead "Zones, wheel rims with a diameter of 18 inches and a lot of other" goodies ".
