The Volkswagen Passat station wagon of the eighth generation (factory index "B8") celebrated its world premiere at the Paris auto show in autumn 2014, but its preliminary presentation took place earlier - in early July in Potsdam (in the company's design office). And in the summer of 2015, he "got" to the Russian market.

The exterior of the "passenger-and-freight Passat" is cut in the same style as the body of the sedan - a solid and dynamic appearance that fully meets the canons of the D-class.

The monumental stern of such a "Variant" does not exalt the weight of the car in its appearance, but, on the contrary, adds respectability to it. The dimensions along the outer perimeter of cars in different versions are almost completely identical, with the exception of the height - for the station wagon it is 21 mm larger.

The salon of the Passat Variant station wagon of the 8th generation in architecture, design and equipment repeats the decoration of the three-volume model - modern and stylish design, expensive finishing materials, high build quality, thoughtfulness in every detail and high-tech solutions.

The front seats offer comfortable seating for the driver and passenger of any physique, and in their arsenal - the optimal profile and decent options for settings. But the rear sofa, due to the shape of the roof, is more friendly for tall riders than in a sedan, otherwise it is full parity.

The luggage compartment of the Volkswagen Passat B8 station wagon is designed for 650 liters of cargo in the standard position, has the correct geometric shape and a spacious niche in the underground (although there is no spare wheel there). The rear backrest is transformed by asymmetrical parts, resulting in a headroom of 1,780 liters.

Specifications. The power line "Passat" of the eighth generation in the passenger-and-freight solution is similar to that of the sedan - gasoline turbo engines with a volume of 1.4-2.0 liters, producing 125-280 "horses" and 200-350 Nm of torque, and turbodiesels, which, with a volume of 1.6-2.0 liters, generate from 120 -240 forces and 250-500 Nm of torque.

There are three gearboxes: 6-speed manual gearbox or DSG, 7-band "robot" DSG. The drive is front-wheel drive by default, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available for the two most powerful diesel engines and the "top" petrol engine.

Structurally, the station wagon also has no differences from the three-volume machine: the MQB platform, a fully independent spring suspension, an electric power steering and effective brakes with disc devices and electronic systems.

Options and prices. The eighth "release" of the 2016-2017 Volkswagen Passat Variant is offered to Russian buyers in three levels of "saturation" - "Trendline", "Comfortline" and "Highline" - at a price of 1,759,000 rubles. Basic features include: six airbags, driver fatigue sensor, air conditioning, traction control, ABS, ESP, tire pressure monitoring, multimedia center with 5-inch screen, rain sensor, alloy wheels, heated front seats, power windows for all doors , fog lights and more.

For a more "packed" version of "Comfortline" they ask from 1,930,000 rubles, and for "Highline" - from 2,310,000 rubles. In terms of equipment, the station wagon in these versions is identical to the sedan of the same name.
