The world premiere of the Cadillac XT6, which marked the return of the American brand to the full-size crossover segment with a three-row saloon, took place in January 2019 on the catwalks of the International North American Auto Show in Detroit, and in June it began its official sales in North America.
Combining the handling and dynamics of an XT5 with the size and luxury of an Escalade, the car is the first Cadillac in 15 years to try on yet another iteration of the signature design with horizontal headlights, but technically (and in many other respects) he repeated the "junior" XT5.
The Cadillac XT6 looks attractive, moderately solid, modern and quite brutal, but still not as impressive as the flagship Escalade SUV.
The "physiognomy" of the crossover flaunts the gloomy gaze of narrow headlights, a large "hexagon" of the radiator grille with a honeycomb structure and a "figured" bumper with LED "fangs" of the running lights, and its monumental stern contains stylish L-shaped lamps connected by chrome-plated a jumper, and a raised bumper with a pair of trapezoidal tailpipes.
Despite its impressive dimensions, the profile of the SUV is at least not perceived as heavy, but on the contrary - it has a dynamic and balanced, but at the same time solid appearance with a long hood, a sloping roofline, elegant sidewalls and huge cutouts of wheel arches.
Dimensions and weight
The Cadillac XT6 is 5050 mm long, 1964 mm wide and 1784 mm high (including roof rails). The distance between the wheelsets is 2863 mm, and its ground clearance is quite modest 169 mm.
The curb weight of the crossover varies from 2014 to 2127 kg, depending on the configuration, while it is capable of pulling trailers weighing up to 1814 kg.
Interior
Inside, the Cadillac XT6 boasts a beautiful, modern and presentable design - a stylish three-spoke steering wheel with a raised rim, exemplary "instrumentation" with two analogue dials and two information displays (the upper one is monochrome, the lower one is color), an elegant center console with 8 -inch touchscreen of the infotainment center and a laconic microclimate block.
Inside, the "American" is dominated by premium finishing materials - pliable plastics, good-quality leather, aluminum, glossy decor, etc.
By default, the "apartments" of a full-size SUV have a seven-seater layout, and regardless of the version, the front riders rely on comfortable seats with wide-spaced side support rollers, a bunch of electric adjustments and heating, and the "gallery" is more suitable for accommodating teenagers or children (in extreme cases, short adults).
But the second row can be presented either as a full-fledged three-seater sofa with a folding armrest in the center and adjustments in the longitudinal direction and in the angle of the backrest, or two "captain's" seats with individual settings and armrests.
Correctly shaped trunk of a crossover with a full load of passengers is able to "absorb" only 356 liters of luggage (according to the EPA method). With the third row of seats folded down, the useful volume of the cargo compartment increases to 1220 liters, and even with the second row - up to 2228 liters (this results in a completely flat floor).
The small spare wheel and the vehicle's tools are hidden in a recess under the raised floor.
Specifications
In the Russian market for the Cadillac XT6, one gasoline unit is announced - this is a 2.0-liter inline-four LSY with an aluminum cylinder block, turbocharging, direct injection system, variable valve timing, 16-valve DOHC timing belt, variable valve lift and deactivation technology parts of cylinders at low loads, generating 200 horsepower at 4250-6000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1500-4000 rpm.
The standard full-size SUV is equipped with a 9-band hydromechanical "automatic" GM Hydramatic and an all-wheel drive transmission with a rear gearbox GKN, equipped with two packages of wet clutches that individually distribute traction between the wheels of the rear axle.
It is worth noting that in other countries, a 3.6-liter V6 petrol "aspirated", producing 314 hp is also installed on the crossover. and 373 Nm of torque, which is combined with the same automatic transmission, but with both front and all-wheel drive.
Design features
The base for the Cadillac XT6 is the C1XX front-wheel-drive platform with a transverse engine and a supporting structure of the body, in the power structure of which high-strength steels are widely used. "In a circle" the car is equipped with independent suspensions with adaptive shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, but only MacPherson struts are used at the front, and a multi-link system at the rear.
"American" is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering with an active electric amplifier. Ventilated disc brakes are used on both axles of the five-door, supplemented by ABS, EBD, BA and other electronic assistants.
Options and prices
Sales of the Cadillac XT6 on the Russian market should begin in the first half of 2020 in two trim levels - Premium Luxury and Sport. True, the prices for the car have not yet been announced, but it is expected that about 4 million rubles in the basic version will be asked for it.
Nominally, the crossover boasts: seven airbags, ERA-GLONASS, ABS, EBD, BA, ESP, leather trim, 20-inch alloy wheels, a media center with an 8-inch screen, a BOSE audio system with eight speakers, a rear-view camera, completely LED optics, heated front and rear seats, keyless entry and engine start, three-zone "climate", panoramic sunroof, "cruise" and other modern "bells and whistles".
