The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is an all-wheel drive coupe-like premium mid-size SUV that (according to the German automaker itself) combines all the advantages of an SUV and an expressive coupe ... It is aimed primarily at young and ambitious individuals with a good level of annual income who especially appreciate the unusual appearance and innovative technologies in cars ...

At the end of March 2016, the German brand Mercedes-Benz held the official premiere of the new coupe-like SUV GLC Coupe at the International New York Auto Show, whose forerunner was shown a year ago at the show in Shanghai as a concept. The car, built on the basis of the GLC, became the second representative of the family of "compartment SUVs" in the line of the manufacturer from Stuttgart.

During an online presentation on March 20, 2019, the company unveiled a restyled coupe-crossover, which debuted at the New York Auto Show the following month. As a result of the planned modernization, the all-terrain vehicle was slightly transformed outside and inside, replenished its functionality with new equipment and "prescribed" a completely updated range of power units under the hood.

Sloping bonnet, elegant "month" of side windows, smooth outlines of the roof and a tiny "extension" of the trunk - the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe SUV looks graceful and deliberately dynamic. From all angles, the car has the main features of the modern design of the German brand, which suits it very well: the aggressive "face" is decorated with beautiful LED headlights and the "family" radiator grille with a huge three-beam star, and the stern is embossed and restrained - a narrow loophole of the rear window, wide LED lights and a massive bumper.

The car is presented in two design options: "normal" and "AMG Line" (which differs from "ordinary" only in "stylized elements" in the design of the exterior and interior, but from a technical point of view they are identical).

The overall length of the "compartment" version of the GLC from Mercedes-Benz is 4730 mm, its width is 1890 mm, and the height fits into 1600 mm. There is a gap of 2870 mm between the wheelsets of the car, and its ground clearance depends on the type of suspension installed.

The interior of the GLC Coupe instantly identifies belonging to the Mercedes-Benz brand - recognizable design, luxurious finishing materials and the highest quality workmanship. The colorful instrument cluster with two "pipes" and a large color display is beautiful and informative (for a surcharge, it is replaced by a fully digital "instrumentation"), and the three-spoke steering wheel looks good and carries a high functional load. The central console is made in a minimalist style with three "nozzles" of ventilation deflectors and narrow "stripes" of the audio system and air conditioning system, while the main body of information is contained in the protruding "tablet" of the multimedia center.

The front seats of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe are endowed with an optimal profile with developed sidewalls and wide adjustment ranges. The rear seats in the coupe crossover are set lower than in the "original" GLC, which provides passengers with a comfortable fit and ample room.

The volume of the cargo compartment at the five-door SUV varies from 491 to 1400 liters, depending on the position of the second row of seats, the backs of which fit into a completely flat area in two different-sized parts.

In Russia, the restyled Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe is provided in two diesel and one petrol versions, equipped with a 9-band 9G-Tronic automatic transmission and a permanent four-wheel drive with an asymmetric center differential (by default, the moment is transmitted between the axles in a ratio of 45:55 to benefit of the stern):

  • Diesel versions of the coupe-crossover are "armed" with a 2.0-liter OM654 engine with a turbocharger, common rail direct injection and a 16-valve timing belt, offered in two power levels:
    • on the GLC 220 d 4Matic 194 horsepower at 3800 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1600-2800 rpm;
    • and on GLC 300 d 4Matic - 245 HP at 4200 rpm and 500 Nm of torque at 1600-2400 rpm.
  • Petrol version GLC 300 The 4Matic is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder M264 with a two-flow turbocharger, direct power system, 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing technology that generates 249 hp. at 5800-6100 rpm and 370 Nm of ultimate thrust at 1650-4000 rpm. In addition to this, a starter-generator (14 hp and 150 Nm) is also connected to it, which works from a 48-volt on-board network and helps during acceleration.

The first "hundred" obeys the car after 6.3-7.9 seconds, and its "maximum speed" does not exceed 217-240 km / h.

Diesel modifications consume from 5.2 to 6 liters of fuel for every 100 km of run in the combined cycle, and gasoline - 7.3 liters.

Before restyling, the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe was sold on the Russian market in the following modifications - GLC 250 4Matic (211 hp and 350 Nm), GLC 300 4Matic (245 hp and 370 Nm), GLC 220 d 4Matic (170 l .s. and 400 Nm) and GLC 250 d 4Matic (204 HP and 500 Nm).

At the heart of the coupe-like GLC is a modular MRA platform with a longitudinally mounted engine and a monocoque body, almost 60% composed of medium-hardness steels and high-strength steels (13% is aluminum).

As standard, the car is equipped with a sports chassis with a double-wishbone arrangement at the front and a multi-link at the rear, and optionally with an adaptive or air suspension. The "pointed" steering of the SUV is complemented by an electromechanical amplifier, and all wheels are equipped with ventilated disc brakes with a host of modern "assistants".
