The fourth-generation car made its debut on December 18, 2017, at a special event in Texas to celebrate the centenary of the first Chevrolet pickup ... and its full-scale premiere took place next month at the Detroit International Auto Show.
Compared to its predecessor, the car has changed in all directions - it tried on a more modern appearance, enlarged in size (but at the same time dropped over two centners of weight), got a completely redrawn interior, perched on a new platform and "registered" upgraded engines under its hood.
The exterior of the Chevrolet Silverado of the fourth incarnation is made in the "family" style of the American brand - the pickup looks attractive, brutal and modern, and the most attention is attracted by its monumental front end with "two-story" lighting equipment, a large radiator grille and a massive bumper (it should be noted that the design of the "facade »Affects the equipment level).
From other angles, the "truck" demonstrates the outlines characteristic of its class: a balanced silhouette with embossed sidewalls and rounded-square wheel arches and an uncomplicated stern with a large "Chevrolet" lettering on the side and vertically oriented lights.
Compared to its predecessor, the "fourth" Chevrolet Silverado has grown in size: in the basic version it extends in length by 5263 mm, of which 3123 mm is the center distance (more detailed characteristics in the company will be announced later). In addition, the car in the equipped form "lost" up to 204 kg, depending on the modification.
The interior of the fourth generation "Silverado" is "drawn" in the American manner - a weighty four-spoke multi-steering wheel, an informative "dashboard" of instruments with two analog dials and a color screen of the board computer, an impressive front panel with a sheer center console, crowned with a large multimedia display and a scattering of buttons and regulators that are in charge of the "microclimate" and other secondary functions.
Inside the car, exceptionally high-quality finishing materials are used - pliable plastics, fabric or genuine leather, inserts "like metal" or "like wood", etc.
The capacity of a full-size pickup truck depends on the version:
- In a single cabin, two comfortable seats are organized with wide-spaced side support rollers and a large number of adjustments.
- In the one-and-a-half version, a cramped "bench" is placed on the second row.
- And the version with a double cabin can boast a full-fledged rear sofa, designed to accommodate three adults.
For the American "truck" two variants of the cargo platform are announced: in the basic modification, the body width is 1473 mm, and its volume reaches 1784 liters (one of the best indicators in the class). As for the rest of the parameters, they promise to be announced later.
Under the hood of the fourth generation Chevrolet Silverado, three engines are installed to choose from (although their characteristics are not disclosed at the moment):
- The petrol range includes naturally aspirated V-shaped "eights" with a displacement of 5.3 and 6.2 liters, equipped with distributed fuel injection, adjustable valve timing and a unique Dynamic Fuel Management technology (it allows deactivating from one to seven cylinders at low uniform load).
- Diesel for the pickup is offered only one - this is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder Duramax unit with an in-line layout, a turbocharger, an intercooler and direct fuel injection.
Engines 3.0 and 6.2 liters are installed in a joint with a 10-band "automatic" (it has four planetary gear sets and six clutch packages), and the 5.3-liter "eight" - with an 8-speed.
There are two types of drive for the car - rear or full (on some modifications - with the Z71 package, which includes a rear limited-slip differential and a two-stage transfer case).
The 2019 Silverado is based on the latest T1XX platform, and its ladder frame is 80% high-strength steel. All moving body parts (hood, doors and tailgate) are made of aluminum.
On the front axle of the pickup, an independent double wishbone suspension is used with aluminum upper levers, and at the rear it has a continuous axle with springs (on some versions it is supplemented with composite sheets).
The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex with power steering, and all its wheels are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated at the front) with ABS, EBD and other "gadgets".
In the US, sales of the fourth-generation Chevrolet Silverado will begin only in the fall of 2018, closer to that moment, prices will be announced.
There are eight options for the pickup: a purely utilitarian version of the "Work Truck" with unpainted bumpers is also available for it; and off-road "Trail Boss" with lifted suspension; and a sporty "Rally Sport Truck" with plenty of chrome, 22-inch wheels and LED optics.
